Are Entrance Exams Relevant?

Every year lakhs of students prepare for entrance tests related to their respective fields. These tests are a gateway to prestigious institutes and universities. But are these entrance exams really relevant? Well, on the one hand, I feel that these exams combat nepotism on a larger scale and help the deserving candidates achieve what they have always desired for.

Some of the disadvantages of entrance exams are:
Student’s capabilities are judged only on the parameters of limited time. At times, a good student could get confused and nervous during the examination.
Various competitive exams encourage teaching to the test practice. Which means, teaching a fixed curriculum focused on passing a specific review. This method prevents the curriculum to a set range of knowledge and skills.

Though there are some disadvantages to entrance tests, a little tweak in the system could help the students reap the full benefits of these exams that are meant for the benefit of our children.
